Hello!
Oxfam at Virginia Tech is getting ready to launch into a new week of fighting global injustice.
We have a meeting Monday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m. in Holden Auditorium.
If you have heard of us through our highly successful bake sales, you know that we like food. We like to think of our sales as ending hunger for yourself and others. So, as important as food is to our fundraising operations, we’re putting the spotlight on the foods that we buy. Our Ethical & Sustainable Food Supervisor will be guest speaking at our next meeting about making food purchasing choices that don’t support slave trades or harm the environment.
After the meeting, the powerpoint will be available for download on our site.
We also have a few guest speakers from other organizations doing good work. Remember, VT Oxfam is a networking platform for every group trying to help us change the world.
We have TWO on-campus opportunities coming up for Hokies to get involved.
Wednesday, November 11 is our DATE AUCTION in the Hillcrest Hall Dining Room at 7:30 p.m. You can show up and sign up to go on the auction block where some lucky Hokie may purchase the rights to spend some quality time with you. Or show up and bid on our many quality Hokies from Oxfam, Ut Proism El Porvenir, and the University Honors communities.
On Tuesday, November 17 the Muslim Students Association is hosting Fast-a-Thon, a whole day dedicated to feeding the hungry in Blacksburg and Montgomery County. It’s simple: Fill out the pledge form that you can find here and fast from sunrise to sundown on the 17th. Then, come to the Multipurpose Room of the Graduate Life Center at 5:00 p.m. for a free meal and a tally of all the money we raised for the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry.
It’s Thanksgiving time. Think of how much better that food will taste knowing you did your part to lessen hunger for somebody else.
See you tonight!
