    Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice. Oxfam America Club at Virginia Tech is a campus chapter that supports Oxfam initiatives, raises awareness, and helps local communities in need.

    We need every Hokie to do what Hokies do best: make a difference!

Club Officers

Kate Magruder, President

Kate is a senior from Leesburg, Virginia.  She is studying Chemistry and Psychology and intends to purse an advanced degree in Psychology.  She has been with Oxfam at Virginia Tech since it’s inception.

Joshua Deutschmann, Vice President

Josh is a senior from Columbia, Maryland.  He is pursuing dual degrees in Economics and Mathematics.  He helped found the organization in Fall 2009 and has served in several capacities to support and grow the group’s impact.

Danny Metcalf, Treasurer

Danny is a junior from Oakton, VA.  He is working on degrees in Economics and Political Science.  Danny has been with Oxfam at Virginia Tech since Fall of 2009 and worked as Director of Advocacy.

Ash Venkat, Secretary

Ash is a sophomore from Annandale, VA.  She is majoring in Bio-systems Engineering.

Glen Van DerMolen, Director of Fundraising

Glen is a junior from Williamsburg, VA.  He is majoring in Economics.  Glen also attended Oxfam America’s CHANGE Training in 2011.

Caitlin Proctor, Partnership Coordinator

Caitlin is a junior from Stafford, Virginia. She is pursuing a civil engineering degree with minors in green engineering and environmental policy and planning. A founding member of Oxfam at Virginia Tech, she has put together many successful events for the group including a Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction.

Christopher Mortweet, Founder & Immediate Past President

Christopher founded Oxfam in Fall 2009 after participating in Oxfam America’s CHANGE Training. He graduated in December of 2011 with a B.S. in Biochemistry, &a B.A. in Philosophy, and will graduate a B.A. in Chemistry this spring.  His hometown is Ashburn, VA.

Russell Shrader, Faculty Advisor

Mr. Shrader is the Assistant Director of University Honors at Virginia Tech.  He graduated from Concord University (Athens, West Virginia) with a B.S. in biology (pre-med focus), and earned a master’s degree from Marshall University (Huntington, West Virginia) in biological sciences.   Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from Virginia Tech.
